Take-Home Teeth Whitening Kits

Our take-home teeth whitening kits are custom-made to fit your teeth perfectly, ensuring maximum contact with the whitening gel and reducing the risk of gum irritation. We provide you with a complete kit that includes custom trays, and professional-grade whitening gel to help you achieve the desired results.

How does take-home teeth whitening work?

  • The process is simple and convenient – we start with an initial consultation, conducting a full examination of your teeth and listening and understanding your requirements to deliver the best possible results.
  • Once you move forward with the treatment, we take a mould of your teeth to create custom-fitted trays that fit your teeth like a glove. These trays will have to be worn at home after adding the peroxide-based gel.
  • The teeth whitening gel is a well-balanced concentration of peroxide made according to your teeth condition and lightning requirements. Some patients may have more tooth sensitivity than others, so they may need a lesser-strength gel which will have to be left in the teeth longer. Whereas others might need a stronger gel which may be worn for two hours instead of overnight.
  • Our dentists will provide complete usage instructions and the recommended time to leave in the trays so that there’s no risk of gum irritation or weakening of the tooth enamel.
  • Over time, the gel gently and gradually whitens your teeth, leaving you with a brighter, more vibrant smile. The duration of the treatment depends on your unique needs and the results you want to achieve. This customised approach to teeth whitening ensures a safer and more comfortable treatment, suited to your lifestyle preferences.

For optimal results, we recommend scheduling a teeth cleaning appointment prior  to your teeth whitening procedure. Plaque buildup can impede the effectiveness of the whitening gel by preventing it from reaching the tooth enamel, resulting in less noticeable outcomes.

Benefits of take-home professional whitening kits

Our professional take-home teeth whitening kits are a safe and convenient option for anyone looking to whiten their teeth in the comfort of their own home, at their own pace.

Take-home teeth whitening kits generally take longer and do not offer an instant whitening look as compared to in-chair teeth whitening. However, one of the major advantages of these kits is that they offer a more permanent result. The gradual whitening process works from the inside of your teeth, meaning that the results are longer-lasting and more natural-looking.

Additionally, because you have full control over the process, you can adjust the frequency and duration of your treatments to suit your schedule and lifestyle.

Once the colour of your teeth changes, it is a permanent change. Most people only need to redo the treatment after 3-5 years, not because their teeth have become yellow again, but because they have gotten used to the colour of their teeth and want to make them even whiter.

At Whitehorse Dental, we are proud to offer these high-quality, custom-made teeth whitening kits at a reduced and upfront price of $199 each, with no hidden or additional charges. This is because our state-of-the-art machine allows us to create these kits in-house, ensuring that they meet our exacting standards for safety and exceptional results. However, if you want to whiten your teeth further, you can get the top up gel for $100, which can cover 2 more weeks.

In- Chair Teeth Whitening

In-chair teeth whitening generally takes one treatment of about 90 minutes with Zoom whitening. It involves applying a concentrated hydrogen peroxide gel on the teeth, which is then activated with laser light to speed up the whitening process.

While this approach gives you instantly whiter teeth in just one visit, the results may not be as enduring as our take-home teeth whitening kits and you may need to repeat the treatment after about six to twelve months.

The laser light used in this method dehydrates the teeth, producing an immediate, temporary whitening effect that may fade once the teeth are rehydrated with saliva. In addition, some individuals may experience tooth sensitivity due to the higher strength of the whitening gel.

In-chair teeth whitening is much more expensive than take-home teeth whitening. Therefore, we only recommend it for patients who prioritise immediate results and are willing to accept the possibility of their teeth returning to their original colour over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does professional teeth whitening at Whitehorse Dental work?
Whitehorse Dental creates custom-fitted trays in-house and supplies a dentist-grade gel for you to wear at home (usually overnight) for 10–14 days, giving gradual, even results under professional supervision. This is the most evidence based way of getting a whiter shade permenantly. Using a professionally made take home kit, you are in control of exactly how white to make your teeth and the results last many years.
Who makes a good candidate for whitening treatment?
Adults with healthy teeth and gums—and without untreated decay, gum disease, or severe sensitivity—generally respond best. Any existing dental issues are dealt with first to ensure safe, predictable whitening.
How much does teeth whitening cost at Whitehorse Dental?
A take-home custom kit is $199, including trays and two weeks’ gel. Extra “top-up” gel (about two more weeks’ use) costs $100. If you prefer same-day in-chair whitening, typical fees across Australia range $600–$1,500, depending on the system and clinic.
Are payment plans or health-fund rebates available for whitening?
Because whitening is classed as cosmetic, many private health funds don’t rebate it. However some insurance companies do.
How long will my new shade last?
Results can last many years if you avoid staining foods/drinks, keep up good oral hygiene, and book periodic cleans. Occasional “top-up” gel lets you refresh colour affordably at home.
Is dentist-supervised whitening safe for enamel and gums?
Yes. The gels are regulated, and custom trays keep product off the gums and soft tissues. This allows us to use a gel that is strong enough to have an effective whitening effect on the teeth, whilst not damaging or causing sensitivity to the gums. When done on healthy teeth under our supervistion, any sensitivity is usually mild and temporary, and your dentist can adjust gel strength or recommend desensitising toothpaste if needed.
Will whitening work on every kind of stain?
External stains from coffee, tea, red wine, or ageing respond well. Deep “intrinsic” stains—such as tetracycline discolouration or trauma darkening—may lighten only partially and sometimes need veneers or crowns for full coverage.
What’s the difference between in-chair whitening and a take-home kit?
In-chair delivers a faster result in about an hour but costs more and can heighten sensitivity. Also the results don’t last as long, typically needing to be repeated every 6 months or so. Take-home kits are gentler, more budget-friendly, and let you control the final shade over several nights. The results are long lasting and often our patients find they don’t need to repeat it for many years.
Does whitening cause tooth sensitivity—and how can I minimise it?
Some people feel short-term cold sensitivity. Using only a “rice-grain” amount of gel in each tooth well, spacing treatments, and switching to a potassium-nitrate toothpaste usually keep discomfort low.
How do I keep my smile white after treatment?
Brush twice daily, floss, rinse with water after dark drinks, schedule six-monthly cleans, and store your trays so you can purchase fresh gel for periodic touch-ups.
